This is something I've thought about! Palpatine's return being announced in the opening crawl is insanely dumb and anticlimactic. The only reason it didn't seem that bad is because Palps was in the trailer, so we already knew he returned. Can you imagine if you learned about it for the first time in the opening crawl? I have to imagine that would be incredibly disappointing.I'm oddly good at avoiding spoilers if I'm conscious about it and had very little of Ep 9 spoiled. I had no inkling Palpatine was in the movie.When he was announced to be doing the next one, I was curious to see how he would handle the new direction The Last Jedi went in. I would never have guess he would decided to pretend it didn’t exist at all.I completely understand your criticism of GEoD. That’s valid. These aren’t really stories that lend themselves to the frenetic editing and non-stop action of much modern cinema. It and Chapterhouse are my favs after the first and they’re both just a lot of talking and planning until the last few chapters when all hell breaks loose. I think I just enjoyed trying to decipher the intentions of the characters.
